"For me Baka are the origins of Music (Big Respect)... Music in a higher and inner feeling that is in community (one heart) with Nature (forest)... Humans (Homo Business) for long times is destroying whom gave and give life to themselves... And Baka are the representation of these. They are being fired from the forests because they want to use their forest for business. Life and this planet are not A MARKET place for "Monkeys" Bussiness. Life is not about exchanging objects and live beings. We must help these people and make return them to their Home (and protect it form Business) because we are protection ourselves and the future in reality. They are the real keepers of the future, business men are not thinking to keep the future save just have their money safe. We must fight."

Global Music Exchange (GME) was founded after a visit to the Baka Pygmies in Cameroon. After seeing a television program about them, Su and I fell in love with their music and went to visit them in their rainforest home. Back in 1992 their life seemed idyllic in the forest, but we have been shocked at the racism and abuse they suffer when by the roadside. As they are pushed out of the forest more and more, they are forced to spend more time in the roadside villages.

GME (named "One Heart" by the Baka women) encourages self-worth and respect for the Baka, and other indigenous people, through their music, dance and crafts.

We record and promote traditional music and use royalties for development projects decided by the communities themselves.

We aim to help them adapt to the modern world whilst also maintaining their rights to live a traditional lifestyle on their ancestral lands.
