Busega Scotland

Registered Charity Number SC046101

Busega Scotland is based in Moray, and supports children and families projects in Northern Tanzania, close to the city of Mwanza on the southern shore of Lake Victoria. The charity works with some the poorest and most disadvantaged Tanzanian communities, to alleviate poverty and increase life chances.

Busega Scotland was established in 2014 and volunteers are all self-funding, so maximising the benefits to its three main projects.

Mayega Children’s Centre – is home for up to twenty-eight orphaned or otherwise destitute children and young people (eg parents have died due to AIDS). Donations meet day to day expenses, including health and education, and help to improve living conditions.

Moving-on Project – provides educational, practical, social and emotional support for young people leaving the Mayega Centre. Students follow vocational college courses to maximise their employment prospects and so ensure a more productive and secure future.

Family Support Project – is based in a small fishing town badly affected by AIDS and this has left many families extremely poor, even by Tanzanian standards. The project provides business start-up grants, health insurance and supports a women’s group, to promote self-help and business growth.

Busega Scotland works very closely with partner organisations in Tanzania to combine knowledge, skills and expertise and in Scotland has an active awareness raising and fundraising programme.
