Registered Charity Number 1001237

Craftspace is a charity creating opportunities to see, make and be curious about exceptional contemporary craft.

We are based in Birmingham and work collaboratively regionally, nationally and internationally. We build relationships between artists, people and organisations and encourage the sharing of ideas, skills and knowledge.

Craftspace initiates artistic programmes which stimulate creative excellence, critical thinking and understanding of contemporary crafts in the widest social and cultural contexts.

For 30 years we have demonstrated the power of craft; to bring know-how, material knowledge, skills, inventiveness, monetary value and entrepreneurship to a wide number of contexts which contribute positively to economic, social, wellbeing and employment outcomes. We continue to learn, push boundaries and challenge ideas.

Making is the starting point of all our bespoke projects, as diverse as collaborations between a textile maker and composer, an exhibition of the best of contemporary craft across the region, a craft social enterprise for migrant and refugee women or a new play celebrating life and knitting.

With your support we can continue to deliver extraordinary encounters with craft and invest in talented makers who reveal the breadth of possibilities for contemporary making.

As a supporter you will be joining others who value the impact and importance of craft and making to the richness of cultural life, to personal and social well-being and economic resilience and innovation. We raise our income from public grants including the Arts Council of England and private Trusts & Foundations. We earn income from the knowledge and experience we have developed and from donations from individuals who want to see the impact of our work continue.

You can help us thrive in our fourth decade by choosing to make a commitment to one of our appeals. By making a one off donation or deciding to spread this over regular periods you will be directly supporting the positive impacts we achieve.

Nurturing talent and exploration: your investment will be focused on projects which support makers in bringing their work to public contexts; providing creative opportunities to explore new ideas, collaborations and making processes.

Expanding participation: your investment will be focused to provide opportunities for individuals to take part in craft led activity to improve well-being, build self-confidence and develop social and cultural wealth.

Be Curious – allow us to invest where the greatest need is across our programme of activities.
