Marian Community Of Reconciliation

Registered Charity Number 1122379

We are the Fraternas, a Society of Apostolic Life founded in Peru on 25th March 1991, Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. As a Society of Apostolic Life, we have come together as a community called by God to be fully available for the evangelisation of the world. To totally give our lives to God we make commitments for life. We live our commitments of celibacy, obedience and of sharing of goods as gifts of love and freedom that fulfil our lives.

The gift of celibacy opens us to an intimate relationship with God that goes beyond description! We unfold a spiritual motherhood that helps us to care for the people we serve and to bear witness to God's love not only with words and actions but with our whole being. By living obedience we learn to be truly free, choosing not what we like or dislike, but the loving plan of God that gives us joy! By living in spirit of poverty and sharing our goods we learn to be detached from temporal things and grow in generosity. By living a fraternal life in common we discover what 'love one another' means. By placing our existence in God's hands, being fully available for the apostolate, we are in a constant adventure that leads to Heaven!

Since our arrival in Manchester in 2004, our community has been involved in various works of evangelisation for young people, creating opportunities for them to grow in their Christian life and celebrate their faith in Jesus Christ. Our apostolic service is present at St Edward's RC Church in Rusholme, where we are based, in Manchester Universities areas and other educational institutions.

Among the events we organise, is the annual Marian Procession, on the first Saturday of October where up to 1000 people gather to give public witness to their faith and love for the Lord and his Blessed Mother. We also organise Encounter, a congress for Catholic students in Secondary Schools and Colleges; both favourable occasions for evangelisation. We also lead young people on Mission Trips to third world countries during the summer, in which they are at the service of communities in development, experiencing the joy of giving of themselves to others.

?We lead various groups of young people who meet in a spirit of friendship to discuss about their faith and ways to live it out in their daily lives. They also get together to reach out to the homeless, visiting them in the streets of Manchester city centre.
