Care for Children

Care for Children is a global children’s charity with a vision to see children across the world moved out of institutions and into loving families.

Worldwide, there are an estimated 5.4 million children living in institutional care (a type of residential care for large groups of children; also known as institutions, orphanages, or children’s homes).

Decades of research prove that growing up in a loving and caring family is critical for children’s healthy development and overall well-being into adulthood. Established in 1998, Care for Children enables countries to develop family-based alternatives to institutional care for orphans and vulnerable children, such as long-term foster care. We provide specialised training and support to government authorities and care institutions, enabling them to set-up and run local family placement services. This means that they can safely move children out of institutions and into local, loving families, where each child can develop to their full potential and build a positive future for themselves.

At Care for Children, we believe in not only initiating change but also in fostering long-term systemic solutions. To achieve this, we work alongside both national and local government authorities and implement comprehensive exit strategies for every project we undertake. Our commitment ensures that the governments we partner with can continue the work independently after our involvement concludes. Additionally, we actively engage in advocating policy changes within the child welfare system to support the work we conduct at the grassroots level.
